Bluechain

Bluechain Research Cooperative is a Social Cooperative Enterprise in Kavala, Greece founded in 2020. The scope of Bluechain’s activities is focused in two areas:

Bluechain develops full-scale systems and platforms, from prototype to production stages, including all intermediate steps of architecture, subsystems & deployment, either on its own hardware & servers or cloud infrastructures. From back-end to front-end, our team supports every aspect of developing a new blockchain or decentralized digital solution.

Bluechain has significant experience in educational activities, participating as trainers and educators in “DLT4ALL” project in Erasmus+, 2 academic cycles in the lifelong training program of Panteion University (Greece), Guest lectures & workshops towards students of the Aristotle University (AUTh) & the International Hellenic University (IHU), participation in a mentoring and training programme of the Vocational School of DYPA (Greece) to teach youths & teachers in topics of digital entrepreneurship, start-ups and AI tech utilization and multiple workshops to professionals in the Energy Sector through Bluechain’s ongoing cooperation with DESFA (Hellenic Gas Transmission System Operator) in the context of blockchain usage in energy trading.

Role in the EcoMystery project

Bluechain is the leader of Work Package 4, where it directs the entire life-cycle of the EcoMystery platform—co-ordinating requirements analysis with partners, engineering the open-source software, and managing rigorous testing and optimisation before public release. In addition, Bluechain authors the “Integrating Digital Escape Rooms in Education” module for the Teachers Advancement Programme (WP2) and the “Sustainable Innovations” and “Activities on the EcoMystery Platform” modules that enrich the student coursework in WP3.

Team Members

Dimitrios Sfounis is a software engineer with 7 years of experience in blockchain & smart contract programming. 4-times internationally awarded in smart contract projects (AUTh – Greece, BYTOM – Shanghai PRC, Microsoft – Shenzhen PRC, Dubai Future Foundation – UAE) and is the lead software architect of Bluechain. In the past, he was the chief technical officer of Smart Places Protocol Lichtenstein, a European Metaverse & Self-Sovereign Identity technology provider. Also, he was the lead educator in the DLT4ALL’s Smart Contract curriculum, in the Panteion lifelong learning program in topics of Decentralized Economies, Social Digital Commons, NFTs & Metaverse, and the lead mentor in the Vocational School of Xanthi and all related seminars.

Dimitrios Kolovos is a Decentralized Finance economist (BSc; MSc, UoM; PhD candidate, DUTH) with 7 years of experience in financial systems and auditing departments in large firms with specialization in Greek Taxation. He is the lead financial designer of internal microeconomies of Bluechain’s blockchain systems. Also, he is the director of the Social & Sustainability strategy of Bluechain, in charge of the Quality and Assurance monitoring activities, and co-teacher in the Panteion lifelong learning programme in topics of Decentralized Economies and the Metaverse, as well as the co-mentor in the Vocational School of Xanthi programme.

Sofia Vlachou is a data analyst and mathematician (BSc; MS candidate, UoA). She has 4 years of experience in data analysis and relevant tools, and 12 years as an educator (STEM teacher). She is the Project Manager of Bluechain, implementing agile methodologies to drive Bluechain’s projects forward. Also, as PM of Bluechain she is responsible for the Quality Assurance and Monitoring development outputs.

Hariklia Sfouni is a qualified Nurse(Bsc Nurse, RN,SPH- specialized in Public Health Care (PHC) and Community Care Nursing, IHU), with 8 years experience in providing health care and education. She has worked in several hospitals, Open Care Centers for elderly people, Primary Health Care services giving community based care directions,and in the regional Public Health Care department, emphasizing teaching and guiding, while in the meantime she has organized public informative lectures aiming at public education. With her experience, she is a researcher and part of Bluechain’s educational activities with an emphasis on adult and senior education.

Antonis Sofras is a software engineer with 6 years of experience of designing & maintaining high performance and robust software for enterprise and critical mission solutions in the public safety sector (New Generation 911 – ESRP- PSAPs). He is involved in the R&D department of Bluechain as senior software engineer. Mr. Sofras is additionally the lead Security Analyst for digital systems in our projects.

Dimitrios R. Pliakogiannis is an active lawyer in Thessaloniki’s BAR association (LLM Civil, Civil Procedure and Labour law AUTH) and a PhD student on the subject of the Civil Law Relations on the Blockchain. With 4 years of experience in the field of Blockchain legal design, being the head-researcher and consultant of Bluechain’s Development Team, he currently has multiple publications in Greek & International academic journals, and has workshops on the legal side of Smart Contracts, (Interdisciplinary Laboratory for Black Sea and Mediterranean Studies – ILABSEM, AUTh).

Dimitris Oikonomou is a software engineer and front-end developer (BSc; MSc, EKPA) with 4 years of experience in UI & UX Design. He is also involved in the R&D department of Bluechain as senior software engineer and leads the front-end engineering & Web3 front-end engineering efforts.
