Istituto Comprensivo Salvo D’Acquisto (Follo) – La Spezia

The Salvo D’Acquisto Comprehensive Institute is a lower secondary school
(ISCED 2) belonging to ISA 21, which brings together primary schools located in the municipalities of Follo, Piana Battolla and Madrignano (Municipality of Calice).
The Institute is situated in the lower Val di Vara, in a territorial context characterised by the confluence of the Vara and Magra rivers.
The school is distinguished by its music specialisation, which complements the standard curriculum with three additional hours per week dedicated to instrumental study. Students may choose among guitar, piano, flute and percussion, within a structured programme designed to enhance artistic competences and to promote music education as a qualifying component of the educational offer.
The main campus includes specialised classrooms and dedicated facilities supporting teaching and learning activities, such as a small recording studio, a fully equipped music laboratory, a classroom dedicated to history and geography, a multimedia and language classroom, a library containing approximately 1,200 catalogued volumes, and an art classroom. All classrooms are equipped with fully operational Interactive Whiteboards (IWBs) and are connected to the network, ensuring an innovative and technologically enhanced learning environment.
Our school is constantly seeking innovative teaching approaches that stimulate students’ curiosity and foster meaningful learning. We are committed to creating educational experiences that go beyond traditional classroom methods and actively engage learners in discovering and understanding the world around them.
Escape room activities have already been experimented with in our school, although in formats different from the multimedia approach proposed within the EcoMystery project. These experiences have demonstrated strong potential in promoting collaboration, problem-solving skills, and active participation among students.
Each year, our institution organises a dedicated week during which traditional lessons are suspended and replaced with a wide range of alternative educational activities, including artistic workshops, music sessions, conferences, and thematic projects. The objective of this initiative is to offer students new and diverse ways of learning, encouraging creativity, critical thinking, and a deeper awareness of contemporary global challenges.
For these reasons, participation in the EcoMystery project represents a natural and highly valuable continuation of our educational vision, enabling us to further strengthen innovative, engaging, and socially relevant learning practices within our school community.
