What’s happening to our climate right now?

Climate change isn’t something that is coming “one day”. It’s already here!
Global temperatures are approaching, and at times exceeding, 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Scientists and the United Nations warn this threshold is likely to be permanently crossed in the early 2030s, making this decade critical for action.

Why should young people care?

Because young people are already living with the consequences.

Summer 2023 was the hottest ever recorded, according to the EU’s Copernicus Climate Change Service. The debate now has shifted from climate change to the climate crisis, as impacts are happening faster and more intensely than expected.

Across Europe, heatwaves, floods, wildfires, droughts, and extreme weather are becoming more frequent. These changes affect health, education, jobs, and everyday life, now and in the future. They also show we are not on track to meet the goals of the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement.

Is climate change the same everywhere in Europe?

While everyone is affected, impacts vary by region. Some areas face extreme heat and drought, others flooding or wildfires. These differences are key to building resilient communities and making informed, local decisions.

What’s the problem with climate education today?

Many young people want to act but feel overwhelmed, underinformed, or disconnected from traditional classroom learning. Climate education often focuses on facts, not on skills, participation, or real-life relevance, limiting young people’s ability to engage meaningfully as active citizens.

What is EcoMystery?

EcoMystery is an innovative Erasmus+ project that turns climate education into an interactive experience. Using escape rooms, the project invites students to solve challenges, work in teams, and explore climate change, sustainability, and civic engagement in a hands-on way.

How does it work?

EcoMystery combines education, digital tools, and creativity.

The project delivers:

• a needs analysis on climate education and youth engagement
ready-to-use training resources for teachers
• hands-on educational activities for students
• a digital platform with thematic climate-focused escape rooms

What makes EcoMystery different?

It speaks the language of young people. EcoMystery encourages curiosity, teamwork, and problem-solving, empowering students not just to learn about the climate crisis, but to feel capable of responding to it.

EcoMystery is:
• Interactive
• Collaborative
• Problem-based

Why does this matter for Europe?

EcoMystery supports Erasmus+ priorities, including environmental sustainability, digital innovation, inclusion, and active citizenship. It aims to create long-term impact, from classrooms to communities across Europe.

What’s the bigger goal?

To help move from awareness to action. By strengthening climate literacy and civic engagement, EcoMystery supports the next generation in shaping a more sustainable, resilient, and democratic Europe.
